Women and non-binary individuals remain underrepresented in STEM, often facing systemic barriers such as limited access to resources, fewer networking opportunities, and biases in academic and professional environments. Redefining STEM Research Grants by AUWS is a fund dedicated to supporting women and non-binary students at Ashoka University in mathematics, computer science, biology, physics, and chemistry. This grant is one of many steps needed to cultivate diversity in STEM and to ensure underrepresented groups are able to engage with the broader scientific community
For students at Ashoka University, this financial support ensures that talented women and non-binary individuals in mathematics, computer science, biology, physics, or chemistry can present their research on both national and international platforms. Attending STEM conferences is crucial for sharing knowledge, receiving feedback, building networks, and advancing career prospects, which can often be inaccessible without financial assistance. This grants program also hopes to enable a culture where more gender-diverse Ashokans feel encouraged to pursue scientific research
